August is my favourite month of the year because me, my family and my best friends, Tammy and Layla, and their family all go to Kelling Heath for a week. On the day we go we get up really early so we can set off on our long journey. Before we go we have to put everything in the trailer and some stuff in the car. When we get in the car we are jumping up and down with excitement because we are so looking forward to going to Kelling Heath. On the way my brother and me are playing games and singing along to the music we are listening to on the radio and we do stupid things because we are so excited. We don’t stop talking about it until we get there…
When we arrive in to Kelling Heath we have to stop so one of our parents can go into reception and get a card of information to hang on our tents. While our parents are getting the card me, my brother and our friends jump out of the car to see each other, and we start running around like crazy. When our parents come back we get back in our cars and go to the red site to find the spot we always camp at. We go to the park to stay out of the way of the adults while they are moaning because they are trying to put the tents up. Then we have to help put everything into the tents. When everything is in place the adults collapse into their chairs with a drink (usually a beer!).
Us kids, well, we then go off into the woods to explore or make dens to play in or we go back to the park.
At night we go bat hunting and we scare each other, or we go to the clubhouse on the kids night and have lots of fun. We sometimes go on a night walk with our torches and we like to make each other jump by popping out of bushes. Before we go to bed we tell ghost stories to each other. None of us go to bed when we are told because we are all having so much fun and we are all wide-awake, so we end up going to bed very late. After a good night sleep we get woken up by the Nightjars. The Nightjars make a sound like a car alarm going off!
In the morning when we all get woken up we all come out with our blankets (we call ourselves the blanky brigade). After we have had our breakfast we make our way to Kelling Train Station to take the steam train to Sheringham. We stay in Sheringham for nearly a whole day and we never come back empty handed because we have always bought something. On the days we are not at Sherringham or Holt or Wells we are swimming because we love swimming and we have so much fun and we would stay in the pool for a whole day if we had the chance.
The swimming pool is probably our favourite thing at Kelling Heath because it is nice and big and we make new friends. Our second best thing is the parks because we have a lot of fun and we love to play on the monkey bars and playing on the wobbly wood bar. I learnt how to do the monkey bars a few years ago and now I can do them really well. When we are not swimming we run to the pond with our empty water bottles so we can catch lots of tadpoles and take a look at them. Afterwards we climb the big tree next to the pond, which is great fun.
When it comes to having tea we either have a BBQ, go to the Forge, go to the Pizza Place or the Dun Cow which is only a few minutes away from Kelling Heath but whatever we have its always nice. When we go to the forge we always have the kid’s meals and we enjoy doing the puzzles that are in the book we get given free with the meal. The kid’s meals are really nice and so is the ice cream.
We really enjoy it at Kelling Heath because we have so much fun, we really like camping and Kelling is the best place to camp because there is so much to do and see and lots of places to explore. We come to Kelling Heath every year in the summer holidays. If there wasn’t a Kelling Heath I don’t know where we would go camping because we always go there because we love it.
This is my story of Kelling Heath!!!!
