Walks & trails

As well as a network of footpaths for you to explore the park by there are several self-guided trails. These are available throughout the year and can be enjoyed at your own pace at any time of day. Leaflets for these trails are available at reception; there is a small charge for some of the leaflets.

NEW for 2010 - Tree Trail
Ready for Easter 2010 the new tree trail will explore 25 different species of trees on a circular route round Kelling Heath aided by a self guide leaflet .The trail is part of the 25 year celebrations at Kelling Heath and sees a tree for every year of ownership by the Timewell family. A mix of existing and newly planted trees will make up the trail.

Anniversary Trail
Launched in May 2009 this new trail will explore some of the natural and built environments at Kelling during the past 25 years and explain what impact our interventions have made. Guests will be able to walk the 3 mile route following directions from the self guided leaflet and interpretation boards spaced along the trail.

Nature Trail
This trail takes you through heathland, woodland and passes a pond, heaths and woods are special places and at Kelling are enhanced by fine views of the sea and nearby coast, it is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

History Trail
Kelling Heath is steeped in history; all around are clues about how the landscape has been shaped, both in natural ways and by human kind. Along the way are several stops where there are things to see and do. You will find out about the wildlife here at Kelling Heath and the special relationships between humans, plants, animals and their environment. The trail is just less than 2 ½ miles (4km); it should take you about 1 1/2 hours, starting and finishing in the Village Square.

Orienteering
Orienteering is a form of map reading on the move. The aim is to find the controls, which are distinguished by a distinctive red and white symbol painted onto a wooden post. You can design your own route around the park by carefully copying the controls you wish to find from the master orienteering map, which is on the main notice board in the Village Square. You may want to find them all! There are 24 controls in total, four of which are in Bodham Wood, the Forestry Commission kindly granted permission for the course to extend into this woodland, which adjoins Kelling Heath Holiday Park. The great thing is you can do it at whatever pace you choose, running or walking, it's fun for all ages.

Mountain  Bike Trail
We have a self-guided mountain bike trail on park. It starts at the Village Square where a sign directs you, and then follow the cycle symbols on wooden posts. We recommend that cycle helmets be worn whenever cycling.

Trim Trail
The trim trail takes you for a run through the woods at Kelling Heath with several stops. At each stop there are various exercises using the apparatus, exercises include inverted sit-ups, pull-ups and a balance beam. A great way to get fit outdoors in the fresh air!  Trim Trail through the woodland of Kelling Heath

The Poppy Line
The North Norfolk Railway has a steam railway line between Sheringham and Holt, part of which borders the park. On the north edge of the park is the Kelling Heath Halt, a platform where you can board the trains. However, The steam train cannot stop when the train is going from Sheringham to Holt because the incline is too steep for the train to get moving again! It's a great experience to have a ride on the restored steam trains. A timetable is available from reception. Find out more on www.nnr.co.uk. A booklet containing several walks of varying lengths, starting at Kelling Heath and incorporating a ride on the Poppy Line into part of the journey, is available from reception.
