AccessAble

We have worked with AccessAble so you can find out about our facilities before you visit. AccessAble’s surveyors assessed our venue to create a Detailed Access Guide.

Our Park

The majority of Kelling Heath lies on a feature known as the Cromer Ridge, formed during the last ice age.

The Park falls within the North Norfolk Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and borders Kelling Heath – an extensive tract of lowland heathland designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Arable fields and two Forestry Commission woodlands complete the surrounding area.

In developing a commercially viable destination, our aim was to do so in sympathy with the environment whilst educating our Guests’ and visiting organisations. Interpretation boards can be found around the Park informing and educating Guests about the Park's wildlife and habitats. In developing the infrastructure and facilities, consideration has been given to those with disabilities where possible.

Sound environmental management of the woodland and heathland habitat is of primary importance, and the Park has been developed in a way that is sensitive to and in keeping with the environment. For example, away from the Village Square and its facilities, roads and paths are typical of a natural woodland and heathland location and may not be suitable for those with disabilities.

Nightjar External

Woodland Lodges and Nightjar Holiday Homes

The Woodland Lodges have more spacious accommodations and baths allocated in them. Parking is available beside all types of accommodation.

The majority of Woodland Lodges and Nightjar Holiday Homes have ramp access, though are not equipped internally for accessible accommodation. We recommend contacting Reservations to confirm your accommodation has this facility.

Unfortunately, temporary ramps cannot be fitted to the other Lodges.

Touring and Camping

Touring & Camping Pitches

Pitches are located in three areas on flat-level grassland.

They can be available close to amenity buildings, which all have accessible facilities. These facilities are also stoma friendly.

There is a family bathroom and shower room in the Red Touring building.

Parking is available for one car beside each pitch.

Arrival & Facilities

A drop-off layby is close to the main reception, whilst parking bays are available in the main car park. The reception area is level with no ramps, and we also have an accessible lowered desk.

A hearing loop is available.

Access to the Village Square is level, with a ramp onto a raised terrace. There is an accessible toilet in the main building.

Bar & Restaurant

The Forge & Terrace has level access and can provide table service.

Menus are available in large print.

Disabled toilet facilities are available in the main building and are stoma friendly.

Brackens has level access.

Activities

There is an easy-access trail for less able-bodied people to experience the heathland habitat and views across the North Sea from an interpretation point. Due to the woodland and heathland habitat, some activities may be unsuitable for those with disabilities. Staff at reception or a member of the Countryside Team will be pleased to offer further advice.

Health & Fitness Club and Outdoor Pool

Access to the Health & Fitness Club and Outdoor Pool is level with no ramps. All corridors are spacious and well-lit.

The Health & Fitness Club has a disabled changing room and a hoist is available or steps into and from the main pool. There is a raised area within the Fitness Studio accessible via a ramp. The fitness studio equipment has been upgraded to improve accessibility, and there is updated signage around the complex.

Our trainers at the Health and Fitness Club are level 2 qualified gym instructors. We have a health commitment statement which is visible for all to read.

There is level access to the outdoor pool and guests may use the accessible changing room in the Health & Fitness club.

Emergency Services

There is a 24-hour emergency telephone service on the Park located in the Village Square and Security is on the Park after hours.

A defibrillator is located in the Village Square, and a number of our staff are trained to operate it.

If you require a wheelchair, we recommend Holt Mobility Centre, 01263 588777. Mobile phone coverage on the Park is available but can be limited due to Kelling’s rural location.

Transport

We can provide details of local taxi firms who may be able to assist with transport. Kelling Heath has its own halt on the North Norfolk Railway, and you can travel to Holt and Sheringham. From Sheringham, you have access to the national rail network.
