Kelling Heath highly commended in prestigious sustainable tourism awards award

North Norfolk’s Kelling Heath Holiday Park has been highly commended in the Green Tourism Goldstar Awards 2013 - an honour recognising its green ethos.

The holiday park, set in 250 acres of woodland and rare heathland, was entered in the Best Holiday Park category. The awards recognise organisations that have done the most to promote sustainability within the tourism industry by implementing cost-saving practices that help the environment and improve customer services.

Competition for the 2013 awards was tough, with Kelling Heath one of 63 other organisations up for one of the 15 categories, whittled down from more than 2,400 across the UK. Nicola Badley, Environmental and Procurement Officer at Kelling Heath Holiday Park, was delighted that the Kelling Heath team’s hard work promoting sustainability impressed the judges. She said:

“We’re very pleased to be highly commended in the Best Holiday Park category. The GoldStar Awards honour the best of the best in the UK’s sustainable tourism industry. “Our eco-ethos runs through everything we do. We have a three-pronged approach to sustainability here at the park which covers how we work, the natural environment and our interaction with visitors.

“We’re committed to providing eco-friendly, first-class facilities, whilst educating our visitors about the natural environment and how to take care of it. To add to this, we operate a green business, from the green initiatives in our offices to the bio-diesel we use in our on-park vehicles.”

The winners of the awards were announced at the Green Tourism Conference at the AT-Bristol Science Centre on 8th November, as part of Green Tourism Week.

Kelling Heath was recently named Best Holiday Park in England by the VisitEngland Awards 2013, as well as being awarded Bronze in the Sustainable Tourism category.

The park has an impressive track record in being recognised for its commitment to conservation and sustainable tourism, having previously been awarded gold in the Green Tourism Business Scheme, gold in the David Bellamy Conservation Awards and a CPRE Norfolk Award from the Campaign to Protect Rural England.
