Our Top Five Norfolk Secret Beaches

We think Norfolk has some of the best and most beautiful beaches in the UK and some of these are little known of, (even to the locals!) but, kind folk that we are, we thought we would share details of some of these hidden gems……..

Here is our top picks of the best of Norfolk’s secret beaches!

Titchwell
It is best known as a RSPB nature reserve. There are lots of birds that live here due to its diverse freshwater and saltwater habitats. The beach can be found about 1km beyond the reserve, the walk to get there takes you across reedbeds and marshes. You would be forgiven for thinking it is deserted once you get there! It is a fantastic expanse of sand and dunes and is great for a relaxing walk. You can take a picnic and make a day of it!

Scolt Head Island

Take a drive out on the coast road towards Hunstanton and you will get to a little place called Burnham Overy Staithe and this is where the next part of your trip begins to what really does feel like a desert island! You will need to time your visit here well; you can wade across in low tide but would need to be aware of the fast-running tides so as not to get caught out! In the summer, there is a ferry that runs at high tide. The island is a National Nature Reserve managed by Natural England. An island of this type is called a sandbar. It is 4 miles long and in the main compromises of Mud flats, wide sandy beaches, salt marshes and sear grass. As well as walking along the beach, it is also good for birdwatching. Take some supplies with you, as there are no facilities on the island. Also please note from mid-April to mid-August no dogs are allowed on the Island.

Snettisham
This is a great beach and we think it is actually fit for royalty! It is located between the royal estate of Sandringham and the popular seaside resort of Hunstanton. A local will tell you it is one of the best places to watch the sunset in Norfolk, so our tip is to go late afternoon and stay until dusk. If you choose to go in the daytime, it is great for beach games and there is also a beach sailing club here!

Cart Gap
If you love Sea Palling but would prefer it without the crowds then Cart Gap is the one for you, and its only a short walk away. It has plenty of space to play some beach games, have a paddle and get some good sunbathing into your day. Handy features are its large car park, toilet facilities and there is a small café nearby too.

Weybourne Hope

An old rhyme says “He who would all England win, should at Weybourne Hope begin”. This one is a bit closer to home for us, which is perfect if you do not fancy a long drive to grab some time by the seaside. This is a pebble beach so no sand, it’s great for a walk along the clifftops and is a peaceful beach where you can easily have a large stretch of the shingled beach to yourself. Fishing is popular here when the tide is up and the fishmen can often be seen with their lures bringing in a rod full of Mackerel!

Hope you are able to visit some of these great beaches and if you come across any other little gems not included please do let us know!
