Baby Squirrel Success For Kelling

One of three baby squirrels bormn at Kelling Heath this summer

The pair of Red Squirrels introduced to the enclosure at Kelling Heath in May have produced three babies and visitors to the award winning holiday park are being asked for help in naming them.

The kittens, as young squirrels are known, are now approximately two months old, having spent the first few weeks of their lives out of sight with their mother in their nesting box. Now, the three healthy youngsters are regularly seen at play in their enclosure.

The birth of the squirrels continues the success that Kelling Heath has enjoyed as part of the East Anglian Red Squirrel Conservation Trust's effort to sustain a pool of red squirrels that may hopefully be re-introduced into the wild at some point in the future – others have been released on Anglesey and the Isle of Wight.

All the babies in the breeding programme born in 2005 will have names beginning with R but as the Countryside Team at Kelling are not sure yet if they are boys or girls they would like suggestions for both.
